| Desolement mon francais n'est pas bon, alors je va ecrire en englais Here some pics of the most beautiful A. punctipes cliquennoisi. It is the first generation and so far they do fine on oak (for the first 3 instars) and then on bramble. The first pics show the freshly hatched nymphs - already a beauty, isn't it? Bruno (Suisse)

| and finally - fasten your seat belts - the adult male It takes quite a long time until the colours develope after the final moult. So the first pic shows an adult male 3 days after the final moult. The colours are still very pale and the following pics show the same male 3 weeks after the final moult. The colours become especially strong when the sun shines directly on the insect. Still the pics do not fully reveal the beauty of this insect. I hope that I will have eggs for exchange next spring Bruno (Suisse) | |

| I do have an adult female at the moment. She did her final moult only some days ago, so it will take her some time to develop her colours. For me she is even more beautiful than the male, although not as colourful as he is. But she is huge, spiky and will become quite thick. Also her hind wings are as colourful as the male's. So I will post some pics of her in the future
The food for this species is (as mentioned above) oak for the first 3 instars and since then I am keeping them on bramble. If one has oak available all the year round, it might be better to just feed them on oak. And eucalyptus might also be a good food plant for this species.
A. punctipes cliquennoisi is named after the wellknown Nicolas Cliquennois. He discovered this species on the east coast of Madagascar. There they live in the humid evergreen rain forests. The male is about 14 -15 cm long, the female 25 cm just after the final moult. So she might hit 26 cm after some time. Contrary to most phasmids species, this species (as well as another Achrioptera which I have currently in culture - A. fallax) is mainly day active. So you can see both sexes feed and moving during the day. And especially the males walk around during the day - often with their beautiful wings fully displayed. But you really need a few big cages for this species. | |

| here some pics of the freshly adult female. These photos were taken with a flashligh in their cage - so the colours are not really as beautiful as in the living insect. As you can see the female is much longer than the male. She is at the moment 25 cm, while he is "only" 14 cm. First female and male together | |

| Hi,
Very nice species, not so much in breed... Is it not a problem to give bramble to the 3nd instars ? A friend have A.punctipes in breed and they don't eat bramble, just eucalyptus and oak...
You say you have A.fallax in breed ? Do you have some pictures ?
Thanks,
Nicolas | |

| If eucalyptus would grow here, then certainly I would give them eucalyptus. But there are no such trees in my area. I could buy it from the garden shops, but one never knows whether it is poisoned. (this happened with my last Megacrania phelaus generation....). And the same problem is with oak, there are no evergreen oak trees here in Lucerne. So I can only feed them on bramble at the moment. Hopefully they will make it. And maybe I can find another plant which they will feed on.
A. fallax are still small.........
